Socket Button Screws — Socket button screws take the same hex socket drive as a cap screw but pair it with a shallow, domed head defined by ISO 7380-1, which sets a smaller head diameter and much lower head height than the equivalent cap screw — the standard exists specifically to keep the dome low and rounded rather than tall and flat-topped. That smaller, rounded head is a deliberate trade: it gives a neater, snag-free finish and a smoother line where the fastener will be seen or handled, at the cost of less bearing area and a shallower socket, so the achievable clamp load and driving torque are both lower than a cap screw of the same diameter. It's the natural choice for guarding, machine panelling, enclosure covers, and any assembly where the head needs to sit low and rounded rather than proud and flat — anywhere a cap screw's sharper profile would be a snagging hazard or simply look wrong.

Grade selection is straightforward: A2 handles the great majority of indoor guarding and enclosure work at the lower price point, while A4 is worth the premium once the assembly is outdoors, washed down regularly, or exposed to salt air — food processing equipment covers and marine enclosure panels are typical cases where A4's better resistance to pitting justifies the cost. Because button screws are so often chosen for appearance as much as function, it's also worth remembering that a stainless surface can still develop light surface tea-staining in harsh coastal air even in A4, though far less than A2 would; regular cleaning reduces this regardless of grade.

Because the head strength is lower than a cap screw's, sizing this product means checking the joint's actual load requirement rather than defaulting to "the diameter that was used last time" — if the assembly needs genuine clamping force, a cap screw of the same or a smaller diameter may outperform a larger button screw. Where load isn't the limiting factor, choose diameter and length exactly as for any hex socket fastener: full thread engagement in the tapped hole, coarse thread as standard.
