SPAX T-STAR plus Driver Bits
The T-STAR plus driver bits are SPAX's own bits, matched to the drive recess used across the whole SPAX screw range. They are stocked in sizes T15, T20, T25, T30 and T40 in 25mm length, covering every screw diameter in the range.
Materials Driver bits are manufactured from hardened tool steel, which is what allows them to take repeated torque loading without the tip rounding out. Bits are a consumable: a worn bit is the usual cause of a chewed screw head, so replacing bits before they are visibly rounded is cheaper than dealing with the fixings they damage.
Sizes and matching T15 through to T40, in 25mm length. Bit size is determined by screw diameter rather than by preference, and the correct size is listed against each screw on its product page. Using an undersized bit concentrates load on the tip and rounds both bit and recess; using an oversized bit will not seat properly at all.

Which bit size do I need? It depends on the screw diameter, and the correct size is listed on each screw's product page. Across the current range the pattern is 3.5mm to T15; 4.0mm and 4.5mm to T15 or T20; 5.0mm to T20 or T25; 6.0mm to T25 or T30; and 8.0mm to T40. Some diameters appear against two bit sizes because head form varies between families, so check the individual product rather than working from diameter alone.
Why use SPAX bits rather than a generic hexalobular bit? A generic bit of the right size will engage, but the T-STAR plus recess is designed around the manufacturer's own bit geometry and the fit is closer. Since fit is what governs cam-out and how fast both the bit and the recess wear, the matching bit is worth using on any run of more than a handful of fixings.
How often should bits be replaced? Whenever the tip shows visible rounding or the bit starts slipping in a recess it previously seated cleanly in. Bits are inexpensive relative to the cost of damaged fixings and the time lost extracting a screw with a destroyed head, so replacing early is the economical choice.
