SPAX Facade Screws

Facade Screws fix timber cladding and facade boards, where the fixing is visible on the finished elevation and both its appearance and its corrosion resistance matter. The range uses a small head that keeps the fixing visually discreet, the T-STAR plus drive and the 4CUT point, and is stocked in A2 stainless from 4.0mm to 5.0mm diameter in lengths from 40mm to 100mm, in three finishes.

Materials and finishes Stocked in A2 (304-equivalent) stainless steel in three finishes: plain stainless, BLAX (a black finish), and Antique (a wood tone). On a cladding elevation the finish is a design decision as much as a technical one, since the fixing pattern is part of what the finished facade looks like. BLAX suits dark-stained or charred timber and dark rainscreen detailing; Antique suits natural and weathered timber where a bright fixing would read as a row of dots across the elevation.

Head and drive The small head is deliberately smaller in diameter than a general-purpose countersunk head, reducing how much the fixing shows on the face of the board. The T-STAR plus recess on these diameters takes T15 or T20 depending on size, listed against each product.

Sizes Diameters of 4.0, 4.5 and 5.0mm, with lengths from 40mm to 100mm. Selection depends on board thickness and on the batten or carrier behind it, allowing for adequate penetration while keeping the point clear of any membrane behind.

FAQs

Which finish should I choose? Plain stainless where the fixing is not a visual concern or where the cladding is light in tone. BLAX where the timber is dark, charred or stained, or where the detailing is deliberately dark. Antique where the cladding is natural or weathered timber and the fixing should disappear into it. Order a small quantity and try them against the actual board before committing to a full elevation.

Will the finish weather at the same rate as the timber? The underlying material is A2 stainless in all three cases, so the corrosion performance is the same; the finish is a surface treatment affecting appearance. Natural timber cladding will weather and silver over time while the fixing will not, so a finish that matches perfectly on day one may contrast more later. This is normal on timber facades and worth allowing for when choosing.

Do facade screws need to be A4? For most inland elevations A2 is appropriate. On coastal buildings, or elevations exposed to persistent salt-laden wind, the same argument applies as for decking and A4 is the safer specification. Ask about A4 availability for the size and finish required.
